Sharon Berg, Psychologist and Therapist, California

Sharon Berg, Ph.D.

Hi, I’m Sharon, but I go by “Sherry,” a nickname I have had since childhood.  My pronouns are she/her/hers. I am a licensed psychologist with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, and I have over 25 years of clinical experience in the field of mental health.

My approach to treatment is to provide a safe, nurturing environment where you can feel comfortable exploring thoughts and feelings that may be impacting your functioning in your daily life. I take an active role in my approach and am direct in my communication style.

I believe therapeutic change comes about when you feel comfortable enough to share deeply personal thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. While I will work with you on what you bring to a session – “the here and now” – I also place great value on your personal history, as that is what has shaped and influenced who you have become and who you want to be.

My clinical experience includes working with children, adults, and families in both private practice and community mental health settings. I am specialized in the areas of infant mental health and parental mental health, working with children ages 0-5 through play therapy and supporting parents impacted by perinatal depression and anxiety. My work also includes consultations to early childhood centers. I have provided trainings on various topics including the impact of trauma on development, attachment, and maternal mental health. I further provide reflective practice consultation to clinicians who are striving to deepen their clinical work with clients and for those who are also seeking hours towards California endorsement.

I am passionate about being a lifelong learner and supporting the personal and professional growth of others. I have a special interest in facilitating support groups and have run reflective practice support groups for mothers of infants. I also volunteer as a co-facilitator of parent support groups for parents of transgender and gender diverse children and teens.
